The Big Takeover reviews Palm Ghosts LP

The Big Takeover issue 94 arrived this week and featured a handful of folks from the Cheetah roster (including Broken Hearts Are Blue). However, the highlight for me was seeing this review of Palm Ghosts’ I Love You, Burn In Hell:

Palm Ghosts
I Love You Burn In Hell
(Poptek/Sweet Cheetah/Sell The Heart/Engineer)

This Nashville band conjures the spirit of ‘80s U.K. post-punk like it spilled strait out of a John Huges movie and onto a 4AD or Factory sampler. Imagine Joy Division’s icy cool jamming with the textured and atmospheric guitars of The Cure, all sountracked for a night of teenage angst. Joseph Lekkas (vocals/bass), Benjamin Douglas (guitar/vocals) and Walt Epting (drums) craft dark anthems such as “Drag,” “I Love You, Burn In Hell,” and “Sleep, Billy Sleep” that echo the despair of classic post-punk while “Automatic for the Modern Age” showcases their broader New Wave influences, and the dreamy “Catherine Shackles” adds a touch of shoegaze haze. The memorable hooks and menacing beats fuel Palm Ghosts’ signature sound: danceable despair.
